We memorize things every day. From a phone number, to which parking level you left your car in, we engage the memory storage function of our brains all the time. We study to turn short term memories into long-term memories and hope that they stay there for upcoming exams! When using study aids such as colors, diagrams, games, or songs during tutoring, students seem to remember more. We can create lasting memories when our senses are engaged. Ever wonder why a certain scent can bring about memories of someone or something? Well, it’s biologically linked that our sense of smell is located conveniently next to the part of our brain that makes memories. Ever feel amused that you still know the lyrics to that 90’s pop song that should be obsolete by now? That’s because music and rhythm helps with memory.
